Battle Los Angeles

Director: Jonathan Liebesman
My Rating: 3/5

I'd been avoiding this movie. The idea of it is pretty cliche and generally follows the "Alien Invasion" blueprint. Meteorites begin falling from the sky in what appears at first to be a meteor shower, luckily for us (the viewer), the meteorites turn out to be aliens attacking Earth. "Whatever though, I like those kinds of movies" I thought to myself, so I decided to watch it.

The film follows Michael Nantz (Aaron Eckhart), a retired staff Sargent with the Marines. Well, he's retired for about 15 minutes before being called back into action to help fight the aliens, bummer for him. War....is fucking crazy. I don't even know really, but I'm scared to death of it. The addition of aliens into that makes it even more horrifying.

It's not as bad as I thought it'd be, Eckhart does a good job and the music is pretty cool. The camera shakes a little but too much for me. The ending is pretty shitty but overall not a bad movie.

13 Assassins

Director: Takashi Miike
My Rating: 5/5

Alot of people built this movie up for me, so I had pretty high expectations. Not only did the film live up to all the praise, but I would say it surpassed it. A beautiful slow climb first act which had my complete attention and did a great job building up the evil Lord Naritsugu. It may sound crazy but I am going to go ahead and compare this film to 300. An underdog story of a small group of samurai taking on a large army, directed by one of the world's best filmmakers. The samurai take over a small village and use it to their advantage in their battle against Lord Naritsugu's men.

There is alot of blood, but it isn't gory. There is alot of fighting, but it isn't only for fans of actions or fight movies.
